When we adopted our second rescue dog, Brownie (Pit Bull mix, 6 years old), we wanted her to acclimate to our family, especially to our other dog, Kanani. Because sadly Brownie had issues like aggressive barking, poor leash manners, and possessive behavior. Most likely Brownie experienced an unstable and traumatic life before. Because of that we were looking for a trainer and felt lucky to have heard about Mela through PAWS of Hawaii. Unlike other trainers we consulted with Sunshine Dogs Hawaii. Also Mela does not focus on the dogs through punishment or discomfort, but instead she focus on the human’s behavior. For example how to do clear communication, how to build trust, and how to develop a deep bond with each other.

As a result of implementing and practicing Mela’s methods, Brownie’s trust in us has grown and we have seen HUGE improvements in her behavior. Sadly dogs like Brownie are often returned because people do not understand them, but they’re just scared, confused, or uncertain.
