Very scared rescue dog with three legs becomes a Service Dog Hawaii.
As Frannie came to us as a foster through PAWS of Hawaii, she recently had a leg amputation. In addition she had several lacerations on her head, and on top of that was covered in ringworms. Because of her traumatic past this little girl was so shy and in physically bad condition. Furthermore she was deemed unlikely to be adopted because of her insecurity and having only three legs. First as Frannie arrived at my house, she was afraid of her own shadow. Critically she wouldn’t get out of her crate and furthermore she was even afraid of eating her food. Without a doubt she didn’t know what treats or toys were. Often times I would find her hiding in the deep corners of the house. Over the first month I tried building trust with her through the traditional training methods, but nothing worked. In the end Frannie only trusted my dog Tank, at the same time I repeatedly failed at gaining her trust. Because of that I was devastated and became hopeful when PAWS of Hawaii referred me to Sunshine Dogs Hawaii.Service Dog Hawaii
Indeed one of the most eye-opening moments was our first session. Because Mela focused on cooperation, clear communication, and foundation of building trust. Surely that has changed the kind of dog Frannie was and the kind of dog mom I am. After two sessions, and unlimited questions which Mela always answered quickly and very thoroughly, I started calling Frannie my doggy shadow. As a result of Mela’s coaching she certainly began trusting me fully and finally adopted me as her human.Service Dog Hawaiion
